Knowing the Best Types of Charging Electronics to use and the Future of Charging Technology.

One of the first things that we take a look at when we wake up is our smartphones. Most of us charge our smartphones overnight but there are also those that simply keep their phone right next to them while they sleep. With that said, when we do check our phones we take a look at the battery power that’s remaining since we want to know if it’s enough to last the day.

Charging has become part of our lives, as we own so many portable devices, we have to recharge them eventually and that has resulted in the development of quite a few charging products on the market and also charging technologies. The main difference between charging products and charging technologies; is that charging products are able to charge our devices, but the charging power behind them is dependent on the charging technology that they use.

With charging being so important to us, we have to ensure that we know what’s available and what the future of charging our portable devices entails.

USB Wall Chargers

Most of the time lots of us just use USB wall chargers to charge our devices, the reason for that is because when you get a new smartphone or a tablet, the first thing that you find other than the phone itself is a wall charger. So we end up just using that and calling it a day. Wall chargers are the basis of charging and by that I mean they’re able to charge our devices directly, sure.

However, even more than that, they’re able to recharge portable chargers (which I’ll get into after wall chargers) and they also power wireless chargers too. Another part that makes wall chargers the basis of charging is that they’re the first charging electronic to use special charging techs such as Quick Charge and Power Delivery. Another two topics that I will also explain within this article.

Portable Chargers

Then there are portable chargers which are the type of chargers that you can take anywhere because they have batteries that are built right into them. These chargers are the most versatile charging electronic that you’ll ever own. That’s because there are so many types of them. If you want a power bank that has a lot of power capacity which can potentially last for a week and it has some fast charging tech such as Quick Charge or Power Delivery along with a flashlight. Then you’ve got it.

Perhaps you want a portable charger that’s very simple, then you would aim for ones that have lower power capacities and as a result, the charger would use fewer batteries making it smaller and weigh lighter.

Car Chargers

Car chargers are another one of those charging electronics that people don’t give a second thought to and that’s a shame because car charging is actually very powerful. Most new cars actually come with USB charging ports that you can use to charge your car but those ports usually don’t give the fastest charging speed.

That’s when a car charger can really help you out in a better way because car chargers are just like wall chargers for your car so you can choose ones that have powerful charging technologies such as Quick Charge and Power Delivery.

So if you’re on a long road trip you’re able to keep your smartphone or even a laptop that uses USB-C charged up, because there are car chargers which use USB-C Power Delivery. Or perhaps you need to have your phone charged up quickly as possible within your 20-minute ride, and your phone is Quick Charge compatible. Then you’re in luck because there are many car chargers that use Quick Charge.

Advanced Charging Technologies and the Future

Quick Charge

The final thing about charging that I wanted to talk about is what charging technologies are growing the fastest. The major ones are Quick Charge and Power Delivery.

You’ve probably heard of Quick Charge and if you haven’t, basically, Quick Charge is used with many Android smartphones on the market and that’s because they use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon’s processors. Using certain Snapdragon processors makes phones Quick Charge Charge compatible and therefore you can use them with charging electronics that use Quick Charge in order to charge them faster.

As awesome as using Quick Charge is, the main setback is it’s really limited to how many devices can use it since Qualcomm owns the charging tech.

USB-C Power Delivery

On the other hand, you’ve got USB-C Power Delivery charging. Well, the first thing to explain is that if you haven’t heard of USB-C, it’s basically a new connectivity method and also a new way of charging our portable devices. It’s also known as USB Type-C and it has been growing rapidly throughout the past two years.

Now its gotten to the point where many Android smartphones are now using USB-C and if a new Android phone is still using Micro-USB then it’s basically living the past. Unfortunately, Apple still hasn’t converted its two newest phones, the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 to USB-C because they actually own the Lighting charging tech so they stuck with that.

Overall USB-C is able to deliver faster charging and it’s reversible so you’re always able to put it in the right way. Also, there’s the Power Delivery charging that’s being used with smartphones, tablets and also laptops.

Power Delivery is a powerful form of charging from the USB-C sand it’s basically able to supply up to 100W of charging power. Smartphones such as the Google pixel 2, and Essential phones are using PD, some HP tablets use Power Delivery and now there are laptops that use PD; such as the MacBook and some Chromebooks too.

As a result of so many devices using Power Delivery, it basically means that you’re able to use the same charger to charge your small and larger devices. Power Delivery is universal charging at its best.
